2021 Surf Art Calendar - Raisa Ellis

2021 Surf Art Calendar

July

“Hermosa Pier Plaza”

By: Raisa Ellis

STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE

FROM THE ARTIST: In the Summer of 2020 my husband and I were looking for our new house in the South Bay. We came across the wonderful city of Hermosa, once you live there you are forever grateful and appreciate the breathtaking views and the scenery it has to offer. While many buildings have been renovated, this city does not lose its charm remaining a vibrant beach town full of culture. From the beautiful nature trail to the restaurant-filled pier Plaza, there is always unique experiences waiting for you. I tried to capture the feeling of a peaceful morning in Hermosa pier-plaza.

PERSONAL CONNECTION

I met Raisa, her husband Brian and their two kids at an open house for a home I represented in Manhattan Beach and there was an immediate connection. As they explored the home, we discussed the vibrant South Bay community and as an example of what a great place it was, I showed her images from the 2020 Surf Art Calendar. The conversation led to how she was a painter and inspired by our conversation, she made this custom painting for me to share with our community.

Personally, having spent a summer in San Sebastian, Spain and visiting various European museums, I’ve grown to love impressionist paintings, with the Musee d’Orsay in Paris being my favorite museum. So, this painting of the Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza, with the American flag proudly displayed is a stand out and timeless work of art that I’m grateful to share with you.

ARTIST BIO

My name is Raisa Ellis and I am a Russian born impressionist painter. While in my studio, I enjoy creating paintings on canvas, using oils, a pallet knife, and a broad spectrum of colors.

Sometimes the colors are vibrant and full of life energy will give you the experience of strolling through an old European city like Paris or Venice. I also like to paint specific themes that will make you feel like you are in California having a glass of wine in a cozy restaurant while watching the sunset.

My paintings evoke memories and create desires for those who are interested in experiencing many of life's wonderful moments. I have always been passionate with traveling to exciting places, exploring new cities, and observing the majesty of mother nature which I try to recreate through my paintings.
