2026 Surf Art Calendar - Rob Waxman

August
“Summer Swell”
By: Rob Waxman
STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE
I met Rob on the Manhattan Beach Strand at 39th Street, where he was painting Plein-Air amongst the people. My appreciation for the art and artists who commit to their craft is such that I had to stop and introduce myself, inquire about his inspiration and then request permission to feature his art within the Surf Art Calendar community. Fortunately, he agreed to share his “Summer Swell” oil painting, which draws inspiration from a perfect south swell, warm water and enjoying the beach with friends on a nice summer day.
ARTIST BIO
Rob Waxman began painting in 2004 at the age of 38 after two careers, first in professional beach volleyball and then in the world of high finance. He has not looked back after giving up a corporate career and 3 piece suits. Within a few months he was painting large oils for companies such as Body Glove and O’Neill Wetsuits. He has studied with famed painter Ken Auster who was a real influence in his life. He has a keen sense of composition and perspective which gives his work a unique style. Having lived his entire life at the beach he naturally finds intriguing scenes along the coast, but recently has spent time in Colorado. Robert starts exclusively with plein-air studies on location and when called for he expands his favorites in his studio.
