ARTIST BIO
Jack Bober is an acclaimed ocean and surf photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, who grew up in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. He started capturing the local coastline around age 12 to 15, initially using a GoPro before saving up for professional water housings and camera gear. He attended California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo.
He is known for raw, powerful surf and wave photography, particularly at San Francisco’s notorious Ocean Beach, as well as landscape and fashion shots. Unlike many land-based photographers, Bober frequently swims directly into frigid, heavy Northern California waters with his camera and a set of fins to capture unique aquatic perspectives.
His work has appeared in prominent surfing and lifestyle outlets, including Surfline, Surfer Magazine, The Inertia, and Marin Magazine. Named a National Geographic Student Photo Contest finalist (2019), a Follow the Light top-5 finalist (2022), and a Monster Children photo finalist. He released the photo zine A California Winter and sells professional prints directly via the Jack Bober Photo official website. He is also the subject of the short documentary film Frame and Break.
