“Rad”
By: Jessica Wright
STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE
From the artist: This piece was created for a surfer who embodies the true South Bay lifestyle. He lived a block from the beach and wanted his art to reflect his passion for the ocean. When he saw the completed piece, he exclaimed, “RAD,” which inspired the painting’s name. This artwork captures both the force and tranquility of a crashing wave.
ARTIST BIO
As a child, I loved being creative, starting with coloring and drawing. As I grew, I moved to pastels and spent hours carving soap, completely absorbed in my projects. Later, I discovered athletics and made sports my main focus, believing I could excel at only one thing. Twenty years passed, filled with many accomplishments; my proudest were marrying my best friend and becoming a mother of two. Creating art projects for my children reignited my passion for art. I began painting decorative pieces for our home, and from there, my journey continued. Selling my artwork to people who appreciate my style and vision has been very rewarding. Creating something from a blank canvas exhilarates me. I also enjoy reusing items, giving them new life and purpose. My inspiration comes from the world around me—I see a texture or a certain color and feel inspired. I observe life and create.
