STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE
From the artist: Getting perfectly barreled in Abu Dhabi while the sun sets over the Arabian Sea and being caught on the big screen all at the same time was never a dream until recently. Having this all happen at the same time was very META. I didn’t know I dreamt about this happening until it did! The wave pool was like a dream but the people were the real experience. Being able to share this adventure with best friends, new and old was the true gold, not just the sunset. I’ll be back.
PERSONAL CONNECTION
I get by with a little help from my friends…. Andy and I have known each other for almost 30 years, first meeting in college at Cal Poly SLO, then reconnecting 10 years ago when we both moved to the South Bay from Venice/Mar Vista. Since then we have had some epic adventures from running in the Hermosa Beach Iron Man, traveling to London in 2022 to watch Chelsea vs Liverpool in the FA Cup Final at Wembley, to this past summer traveling to South Africa together with a stopover in Abu Dhabi to surf the wave pool. He’s a great friend, even better surfer, and I am grateful for his contribution to the 2026 Surf Art Calendar.
