STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE
From the artist: “I took this photo while I was out skateboarding. I have always admired the stunning home on the Strand – an especially well-executed version of Los Angeles’ 1920s Spanish architecture – so I almost crashed when I saw the rare, cherried-out 23-window VW parked outside. The challenge was capturing the bigger context and the beachy scene in one shot.”
ARTIST BIO
Anne Williams is a South Bay native who enjoys skateboarding around her neighborhood in Hermosa Beach, taking pictures of interesting cars she finds “in the wild.” She started the series in 2018 after a visit to Havana, Cuba gave her the idea to use cars as a lens through which to view and document the rapidly-changing community she loves. This artistic theme became her Instagram account, @street_parking_hermosa
